Bad dreams-go away

“I don’t care what he says! He should have thought of that before he slept with Megan!!  Gina, I’m sorry, but I can’t work here anymore.  Not as long as he works here.  I quit.”

Gina looked at her mom. A look was all it took. The silent question in her eyes had to have an answer.

“Riley, I’ll fire him.  Don’t worry, I’ll tell him as soon as he comes in and you won’t even have to see him. Just take the day off and come back tomorrow after you’ve calmed down.

“You can’t do that, Gwen.  You can’t fire him just because he cheated on me.  He can sue you for that.”

“Riley, I…” Riley was gone.  She ran out the door with uncontrollable sobs wracking her body.  Moments later Gina and Gwen heard her car start and leave the small parking lot of the bed and breakfast.

“I was going to say that the only reason I kept him was because of Riley.  I have had plenty of reasons to fire him and I plan to regardless of what she said.”

“I know, Mom. I’m surprised you kept him on for this long.  He’s always such a jerk to everybody.”

“Well good riddance is all I can say.

~*~

Gwen enters the room to find Gina still in bed and crying.  “Gina, are you okay?  Do you need anything?”

“I’ll be okay, Mom. I just can’t believe she’s gone!”

“I know.  It’s so sad.  I never should have let her leave when she was crying so hard. I never should have let her drive like that.”

“You didn’t know, Mom.  You couldn’t have stopped her anyways.  You know how she is.:

“Yes, I do.  I just wish I could have done something to save her.  I can’t believe she hit that truck head on.  Do you think it was intentional?”

“No!  She’d never do that!  God, Mom!  Besides, the police said she had so much mascara clouding her vision from all the crying that there’s no way she could see anything. It was an accident.  I just don’t see why she didn’t pull over before it got that bad….Mom?”

“What is it, Gina?”

“Oh…nothing, never mind.”

“Don’t you start.  What is it, Honey? You can tell me.”

“It’s nothing, Mom. I just..I thought I saw something.”

“What did you think you saw?”

“I thought I saw a red light pass over your face.  Just like I thought I saw one on Riley’s face right before she….”

“Oh Honey.”  Gwen sat down on the bed and hugged Gina tight.  “I think you worry too much.  Are you sure you’re going to be okay?”

“Yes, Mom.  Thank you.  I … Mom?”

“What is it, Gina?”

“Your nose is bleeding.”

Gwen touches her face and notices a large wet spot under her nose and starting to drip.  “Oh my goodness!”  she says and runs to the bathroom to clean up.

As she gets to the bathroom she notices the blood is coming faster and faster and, given what Gina just said about the red glow, she panicked.

“Gina, I’m going to run to the hospital around the corner.  Will you get dressed and meet me there?”

“Sure, Mom. Go ahead and be careful.”

Gwen runs down the stairs and out the door.  As she gets to the corner at the end of the block, she gets a little light-headed while crossing the street.  Too late, she noticed the motorcycle coming straight for her.

Gina hears the crash from her driveway and runs to the end of the block, scared of what she’ll see.  When she gets there, mom and the motorcyclist are wrapped together in a mass of bones, skin, hair and blood.  There was nothing she could do.

At this point I woke up from the dream.  Well….there was a little strangeness involving someone asking Gina for calligraphy pens before I actually woke up…  The whole thing was just odd.

Where do you go from here?  Do you ever have dreams like this?  If so, what do you do with them?

I usually don’t, but they do seem to get more frequent when I”m actively writing.

Crystal Blue – with cool new history!!

I wrote this for a former teacher of mine while looking at, and inspired by, a picture of an eagle.  I’m re-posting today because after I showed her the poem, she showed me this picture….

Crystal Blue, the aforementioned teacher, took this picture the DAY BEFORE I was randomly inspired to write this poem about her while staring at an eagle picture  in my bedroom!!!  How cool is that!  I couldn’t think of anything to write that night and just scribbled a bit with my eyes closed. When I opened them, my eyes focused on the eagle picture in my room. I let my eyes go soft and continued to scribble, and soon the poem just came to me.

Has anything like this happened to you?  Let me know in the comments below

The Eagle soars as Eagles do
‘Neath a sky of Crystal Blue,
And the Wolf whose mournful howls
Are no match for feral growls
Oh the Kitties how they pounce
How they tumble, how they bounce,
See the Ravens crow and dither
As they fly both yon and hither.
All of these can e’er be found
If you only look around.

Moving soon, I hope—SO tired

I have my own domain now.  http://www.ravenmarlow.com.  After it’s up, I’ll double post everything for a month or two, but then this site will retire, probably.

I’m so tired from staring at a computer screen all day for work and then all night for homework (read all my classwork tonight for one week and part of last week’s too…Yes, I was late).  My eyes and head …and well my whole body hurts from Fibromyalgia.  The weather front moving in has me barely able to move, so instead of writing tonight I’m going to post my journal entry for last night:

Can't we all just get along??

Class today—well it sucked.  Apparently even gadgets on a desk piss off the professor, whether using them or not.  LOVE being treated like I’m 2. NOT!!  Ah well…the next class has a great professor, but I feel clueless on some things while my much younger classmates seem to already know everything. MAN I feel OLD!!  Remind me again WHY I’m in school…anybody?

I’m beginning to see it as little more than a roadblock to my writing.  Unfortunately, there are financial reasons why I really need to stay in, so stay in I will.

Besides…what if I can’t make it?  What if I never make a career in writing?  I read an article the other day that showed how a certain company is making it all but impossible for new authors to gain success.  Sure they can publish, but without a name, who’s going to buy your work?

Basically, either you already have it or you never will.  It doesn’t bode well for my reams for the future.  I really hope that article is wrong.  OR–I hope I’m the exception (long with some close friends).  I’d really LOVE more time to write and develop a fan base–even meet fans.  Besides, my day job is slowly killing me.  I really need to get out if IT!  I know…how did I go from IT to writing? That, my friends, was a very LONG journey.

Maybe someday I’ll share a bit of it.  But not today—

What are you looking for?  What are your dreams? I would love to hear them!

PS if anyone knows who the picture creds belong to, please let me know. I saved it years ago. Thanks bunches!

Can You Save the Faeries?

I believe this is Amy Brown's work.

Here’s a little something I’m playing with.  Let me know what you think!

You’ve heard it said that when children say they don’t believe in fairies that their lights go out. But they don’t die. Oh no, they don’t die.

When a fairy’s light goes out, they become nasty dark fairies. They miss the light so much that they become very bitter.

So instead of flying around doing good things, they do mean things. They don’t want to help young children believe in themselves.

Instead they whisper dark things in their ears. They don’t tell them to be nice and share. They tell them to take things that aren’t theirs.

They no longer leave money in exchange for your tooth as a special celebration.  They prefer to take away your shiny things, just because they can.

They bully around the fairies of light and tell you to do the same to your friends.  They take their money and kick them around.  Do you know people like that?

They pull dogs ears and make them yelp so mom and dad think you hurt the family dog. Is there any end to the mean things they do?

But there is hope yes there is.  There is something YOU can do!

It’s true that every time a child says they don’t believe in fairies one of their lights goes out,

But if you believe again their lights return!

YOU can bring back the fairies of light one by one!  Share this phrase with everyone you meet:

I believe in fairies, yes I do.
I believe in fairies, do you?

Say it with me, shout it out to the world!

I believe in fairies, yes I do.
I believe in fairies, do you?

Non-Profit Org for Writers

I have this idea. It’s been running in my head for several weeks. The idea is for nonprofit organization for writers. It would start with a forum as a means to get to know one another and support each other. There may also be an exchange of services board for help with alpha reading, beta reading, proofreading and other such things. Another board might be for a ‘Meet the Author’ forum so fans can talk to their favorite authors.'Writing' photo (c) 2008, Tony Hall - license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/2.0/

In addition to the forums, I’d like to start with offering basic editing and formatting services for ebooks. Eventually I’d like to add content editing, book covers, and hopefully publishing services.

There would also be a Twitter feed announcing new members and announcing when members publish new materials.

In order to do this, I would need volunteers and donations. I’m not asking yet, I just want to know who would be willing. I don’t want ANY donations until this is a legal entity. I have a domain and hosting, but I need a logo designer and web designer (or an easy template).

I could do this as a regular business, but I’d much rather it be non-profit. As such, if it takes off, it could change the face of e-publishing. I’d really like comments, input, offers of potential future assistance…anything really. I need to know how to proceed here. I am just not sure where to begin with such a big idea…but the idea won’t let me go! Please help?

Happy Holidays!

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. My holidays are a bit quiet this year, but that’s not always a bad thing.  It is taking some getting used to, but I’ve learned to like quiet over these past months.
I am still working on the book; however I will be slower to post for some personal reasons I am happy to share with you … well, almost.

Festive Christmas Tree by the Fireplace

For one thing, I’ve decided to do some more informative posts for now. I really want to share my path and what I learn along the way as a writer.  I will continue to post my book, but I may only post a chapter a month or so, and hopefully by the time we finish the posts, I will be ready to publish.

The other news I will hint at but not share completely yet. I’ve decided to use my skills and degree for a certain business venture that I hope to reveal here very soon.  I need to get my ducks in a row, verify market and startup costs involved before I can announce the project. This is very near and dear to me, and I think you will really love it.  I hope so!

Meanwhile, have a wonderful holiday season!  I’m getting ready to go get a peppermint latte and go look at Christmas lights!  Tell me what your favorite holiday tradition is!
